So to introduce ourselves:  I’m Silvie and my husband is Neil.  We’re South African and currently stay in the UK.  As life would have it we married two years ago and decided to buy a house…. Oops did I say buy a house…. I don’t think so! Nope we decided to keep it simple and travel Africa.  We bought a roofrack off e-bay (belonging to Tim Dennis) and the obvious next step was to buy the truck to fit the rack.  So a couple of phonecalls and crosswires later we ended up on the phone with Tim Dennis who just so happened to have a friend who is selling his Toyota Landcruiser.  Needless to say the rest is history!

Why RamblingRat?RamblingRat

Set up in The year of the Rat we challenge negative perceptions of Street Youth by using a cartoon Rat who happens to be called “Dylan” a lovable, caring, cheeky rogue, at home on the road, meeting new friends and visiting new places.

What do we do?

  • RamblingRat are innovative expeditions raising awareness for Street Kids International
  • Street Kids International empowers youth around the world to build better futures for themselves.
  • RamblingRat inspires people to make a difference to the lives of marginalized youth in their own communities and around the world.

Endurance:
Visiting remote parts of the world using innovative technology in order to challenge ourselves and share real life experiences which inspire others.
RamblingRat Africa will be joining Street Kids International projects in Ethiopia as well as related organisations in Europe.

Empowerment:
We speak at schools and organizations and set up locally relevant youth projects to encourage individualism and global freedom.  As RamblingRat Africa, we aim to create a curriculum based entrepeneurial toolkit for UK Schools.  This toolkit will be based on toolkits used by Street Kids International to train street youth globally.  This course will culminate in an entrepreneurial day with all profits being donated to Street Kids International.  We hope to make this project their legacy in the UK.  Stay tuned to hear about their Rift Valley Birding Project in Ethiopia.

Awareness:
We promote awareness for the work of Street Kids International, a united nations best practice leader in helping street youth from around the world create a more positive life for themselves.  We do this by communicating with the media and encouraging people to support The RamblingRat Project using Media, Music, Art and Drama, called M.A.D RamblingRat.

Global Achievement so far!

To date the project has completed a full circumnavigation of the world, Tim travelled solo and unsupported through 12 countries in 12 months taking 6 ships to transverse 3 continents and 3 oceans.  Tim has set up 3 skateboarding projects focusing on marginalized youth in local communities on route.  Inspired youth in schools around the world to support marginalized youth.  Attracted world wide media attention in over six countries, Tim has appeared on TV, Radio and been featured in papers to promote the work of Street KIds International and inspire individual freedom as he travels.   Tim created a short movie called “Around the World on a Mac” Which featured as an Official Apple Store event in UK London the largest Apple Store in the world and Glasgow Scotland, Tim has been invited to speak in Tokyo Japan, Sydney Australia and NewYork USA.

 What is our aim?

We hope to enlist the help of corporate partners to assist street youth across the globe.
We want to expand the RamblingRat Project into a fleet of overlanding vehicles raising awareness of Street Kids International to all corners of the world.

 Company quotes:

“Any form of youth helping youth worldwide is a design for a greater and more prosperous world to live in for all.”  Tim Dennis
